HISTORY
1.POITICAL
The Donkorkrom District (of the Kwahu Presbytery of the Presbyterian church of
Ghana ), is located in the Kwahu North District in the eastern region of Ghana.
The Kwahu North district covers a total land area of 5,040 square kilometers. it
is the largest district in the Eastern region in terms of landmass. Population
by the 2000 census  stood at 143,000 at a rate of 3% growth. The population
density is 28 people per square km.

The major ethnic groups are largely the Akans (Twi), Ewes, and the people of
Northern extraction with most of them being farmers. The area is noted for its
potential to produce food stuffs, industrial crops, livestock and fish for local
consumption and export for foreign exchange.

The district is enclosed by the Afram River in the south, the Obosom river in
the north and the volta lake in the east which flow throughout the year and can
be used for both domestic and agricultural purposes. Its enclosure by rivers
makes it a peninsula. The predominant vegetation is transitional which consist
of both forest and savannah tree species and grasses, savannah wooded land.  The
rest of the vegetation may be described as river/ swamp forest. These occur in
the poorly drained valley bottoms and consist of dense stands of forest and
savannah tree species and water lowing grasses.

Topography is similar through out with slopes of generally less than 3% and very
seldom above 5%. Valley basin tend to be wide and  generally far apart thus
leaving extensive area ideally suited to mechanized cultivation.

DEPARTMENTS
The district is ran on  seven (7) departmental bases.  The departments include:
·         Church Life and nurture (CLAN)
·         Mission and Evangelism
·         Ecumenical and Social Relation
·         Administration and Human Resource
·         Development and Social Services
·         Finance
·         Education

CHURCH LIFE AND NURTURE (CLAN)
They plan activities geared towards spiritual growth of members in the church.
The activities include Bible studies, Prayer meetings, Morning devotions,
revivals, Deliverance and Counseling, etc.  Baptism and Confirmations and the
Lord’s Supper are carefully taught and practiced.

These are targeted at the various ministries comprising the:
Children Ministry,  Junior Youth, Young Peoples Guild, Young Adults Fellowship,
Women’s Fellowship, Men’s Fellowship, Boys and Girls Brigade and other groups in
the congregations.

MISSION AND EVANGELISM
This outfit sees to the fulfillment of our core mandate as a church, that is,
winning souls and discipling them. The tools employed are mainly house to house,
open air services, visitations, crusades, radio ministry and other strategies as
led by the Spirit of God. The district continues to raise funds in aid of God’s
work.

ECUMENICAL AND SOCIAL RELATION
We relate with other congregations beside the Presbyterian Church. We are a
member of all Local Council of Churches and participate fully in their
activities.

We also relate well with the Traditional rulers and people of other faiths. We
enjoy partnership with friends from Europe and the U.S.A who support us in
various ways.

ADMINISTRATION AND HUMAN RESOURCE
Much emphasis has recently been laid on the importance of equipping ourselves
with quality human resource with varying backgrounds. Training is therefore
crucial to our activities. The need to fit our offices with modern gadgets is
seriously being pursued. Computers, Printers, Projectors for Power Point sermons
and Teaching services are all needed in this regard.

DEVELOPMENT AND SOCIAL SERVICES
The district provides social services to our community and its environs. The
Presbyterian Hospital in Donkorkrom  is the only hospital in the district and
serves everybody who visits this health facility.

The Spartanburg Orphanage is attached to the hospital and assists orphans and
needy children in the community and beyond. Friends from Scotland and the
Foothills Presbytery in the U.S.A have been doing a wonderful job at the
hospital and orphanage. Medical equipment, cash donations and other logistics
come from time to time from these great friends. They have paid us visits too.

Synclair and Kim at the Spartanburg Orphanage - Donkorkrom
We ensure that one does not miss an encounter with the word of God as they pass
through our institutions.

In terms of development, a pilot yam farm is underway with the view to expanding
it and employing people to work for wages. It is hoped that a holistic ministry
will be served our people.

FINANCE
We ensure a proper accounting practice. This breeds confidence in the members
and encourage giving. We have worked hard to make quarterly financial reports a
common feature in our administration. To ensure that the work of God progresses
further and faster, our financial commitment to higher courts of the church are
paid regularly.

We welcome groups, ministries and individuals who would like to partner us and
support us financially to promote God’s work. A research carried out shows that
there are 14,000 towns and villages in Ghana without churches. We need more
resources to reach out to them.  The Ebenezer congregation has set up  a ‘CLUB
150’ account which seeks all who are zealous for the Lord to contribute money to
so the mission to the unsaved could be followed.

EDUCATION

SCHOOLS
The district is endowed with the following basic schools.
·         Odomase Primary school

·         Samanhyia primary and JHS
·         Kwasikuma Primary
·         Ntonaboma Primary and JHS
·         Donkorkrom Primary and JHS

We place emphasis on education and jump at any opportunity to bring it close to
people in their communities.
